Starting Point Pics
Part of Kodaikanal Hills Ultra‘ s objective was to inspire the local youth into an active and healthy lifestyle. 334 children from 12 schools near Kodaikanal participated (for free) in the first edition of KHU. Thanks to Rotary Kodaikanal and Kodaikanal International School for reaching out to the schools:
St. John’s girls school
St Theresa girls school
Govt high school
Kodaikanal Hills Ultra medals are made from stones obtained from the hilly regions of Thiruvannamalai, Jaipur, Andhra and Agra. These kind of stones have been used in making stone sculptures dating back to Pallava dynasty. The design chosen represents the Kodai hills and the runner.
Similar to all CTC sports events Kodaikanal Hills Ultra was a 100% green event: reusable thumblers at aid stations eliminated use of plastic bottles and paper cups. Areca plates for serving breakfast. Runners t shirts made from bamboo fiver and organic cotton with natural dies. CTC strongly believes any event inspires people into an active and healthy life style should be closer to nature and sustainable.
Meet the team behind #KHU18, the volunteers (not all shown) who worked hard behind the scenes of the 1st edition of KHU to indulge 1000+ runners from 100+ cities across India and Global. If you loved the trail then don’t miss to drop a comment to our team.
Chennai Trekking Club extends its sincere gratitude to Rotary Kodaikanal, Kodaikanal International School, TN Forest Department and Kodai Police without whose support the first edition of Kodaikanal Hills Ultra would not have been possible. We further thank our partners Unived and Devadoss Hospital for their association. We look forward to joining hands again for the next edition of KHU.
In-house Sanitation Facilities for Poombarai village and Kodaikanal town government school. Poombarai School which have more than 500 students and only 2 restrooms in the open. We are doing this project especially for the girl children in the village who find it difficult to attend school.
We thank all runners for their voluntary donations towards the associated cause of our Kodaikanal Hills Ultra for improved sanitation for the girl child in govt schools of Poomparai and Kodai. A cheque of Rs1.8 lakhs (nearly 20% of the overall event budget!!!) was handed over by Chennai Trekking Club to Rotary Kodaikanal who will oversee the construction of new toilets.
